Being Interview

We were lucky enough to be able to talk to Jordon and Dylan from BEING. They let us in on the new singer, how their new music is going and their upcoming tour. This is what the guys had to say:

Info
Genre: Deathcore, Downbeat
Years Active: 2014-Present
Hometown: London/Toronto, Ontario
Record Label: None

1) What's your name and role in the band?

My name is Dylan and I play Bass
I’m Jordon and I play Guitar

 2) Your band is from London and Toronto, How does that work? Where do you play most of your shows?

Dylan: Haha it’s a pretty tough challenge to work around but we’ve definitely put miles on our cars to make it work. We mainly practice in Mississauga just outside of Toronto. We find most of our shows are in the GTA, Toronto specifically.

3) Why did you guys pick the name Being? It seems pretty simple and there are other bands with that name. Your also not the being that comes up when googled.

Jordon: "BEING" was chosen to represent all the demons inside of you. The resentment, the fear, the shame, the lies, the evil. A metaphorical "Being". I also was not aware of the other "being" band when I decided on the name and made the corresponding websites. They also play a very different style of metal, Also that band has not released music since 2015, so I think we are okay

4) If you were to describe Being and downbeat to someone on the street, what would you tell them?

Jordon: Really heavy, scary, slow metal lol

5) How would you say the band has progressed and from the first album to the latest one?

Jordon: The first EP was done 100% by myself aside and the vocalist. We were just a 2-piece internet band. When it came to the second EP, my writing just got a bit more advanced from the first EP as I continued to write in this style. We also incorporated new members to fulfill live positions. This ultimately led to a real drummer writing the drums, and more members to bounce ideas off of. For the new EP we have been working on, the main goal has been to make our sound better. And we feel we have achieved that.

6) You just got a new vocalist, how does his dynamic fit with/change the band?

Jordon: Our new vocalist brings a lot more lyrical structure to the songs, as well as lyrics that are more relatable.

7) Since the latest album was released over a year ago, any plans on new music?

Jordon: We have been hard at writing a new EP that is well worth the wait! We should be releasing a single off it soon, with the EP release shortly thereafter!

8) What was/has your relationship with We Are Triumphant been like?

Jordon: Without going into details, they did nothing for us.

9)  The band is going on a small run across Ontario with Boundaries, what are your expectations for the tour?

Dylan: We have some high expectations for this run with Boundaries. Since announcing, we’ve had a great response from old and new fans who are excited to see us. We’re all super excited to meet the guys in Boundaries and show them some Canadian hospitality.

10)  When you guys are a small opening band and no one has really heard of you before, how do you draw a crowd in or make yourself stand out on say a four band bill?

Dylan: I would say a great way we stand out from a typical 4 band bill is with our chaotic live show. We tend to push ourselves to the limit and see how wild we can really get.
Getting new fans out is always a challenge for any band, it starts with writing songs we think will really get people moving and going. That’s a big part of growing yourselves.

11) Which bands from around the local London scene would you suggest to someone looking for new music?

Some London bands we really vibe with are: The Luminary, Vice Ring, Strange Ways, Playing God, Underlier
